Fraud Counts Denied: A Garden Grove optician has been charged with defrauding the state’s Medi-Cal program of $1,200 and practicing optometry without a license. Chi Son Chung of Anaheim pleaded not guilty to one count of grand theft, 10 counts of filing false claims with the state’s Medi-Cal program and three counts of practicing optometry without a license, said Ron Petska of the state attorney general’s Bureau of Medi-Cal Fraud. Chung, who owns Bo An Optical in the 8900 block of Garden Grove Boulevard, is free on his own recognizance. Between January, 1985, and March, 1986, Chung performed numerous eye examinations for which an optometric license is needed, Petska said. Chung is only licensed to make glasses, he said. Chung is also charged with illegally billing Medi-Cal at least 10 times for these examinations.
