The Region : Overtime Study Ordered

Share

In response to disclosures that many county firefighters received tens of thousands of dollars in overtime last year, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors ordered that all overtime be approved in advance by battalion chiefs. The board also ordered a study into overtime procedures and asked that such a study include overtime earned by sheriff’s deputies. The actions were taken after news reports that one firefighter last year earned more than $60,000 in overtime and more than two dozen others earned more than $70,000. Base pay is about $39,000.
