Judge Who Waived Son’s Parking Fines Accused of 3 Crimes

Share

Three criminal charges were filed today against Beverly Hills Municipal Judge Charles D. Boags, 57, who suspended fines on more than 190 parking tickets issued to cars driven by his son and the boy’s friends.

The misdemeanor counts filed by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office include conspiracy and failure to carry out judicial responsibilities. Specifically, the judge is accused of failing to disqualify himself from a case involving family members and in which he had a financial interest. A 1984 Honda to which at least 72 of the parking tickets were issued is registered to Boags and was used by his son to drive to and from Beverly Hills High School.

Boags, in a written statement, said “no member of my family has been treated differently than any other citizen facing the same circumstances.”
