San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein has appointed a 15-member Film Advisory Council to bolster the city’s position as a major film production center and fend off growing competition from other areas. “San Francisco has been the only major city in the nation without a film commission or council,” council member Greg Snazelle said Wednesday. “We intend to promote, organize and entice any kind of film activity into Northern California.” He said the council hopes to raise up to $500,000 a year in public and private money to promote San Francisco as a location site.
