A Navy man was found dead in a motel whirlpool early Sunday morning after he apparently fell asleep in the hot water, coroner’s deputies reported.
The victim, whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives, reportedly entered the spa about 3:30 a.m. with another Navy man at the Easy 8 Motel on Midway Drive. The second man was awakened by friends about 8:30 a.m., still sitting in the spa. The victim was found under the water.
He was taken to Sharp Cabrillo Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:18 a.m. An autopsy is pending.
