An amateur team with some of the top soccer players in Southern California will face one of the Soviet Union’s most powerful clubs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at El Camino College.

Dynamo Moscow, 11-time Soviet champion, will face a conglomeration of players from the L.A. Heat and Southland college stars coached by Marine Cano, coach of the Heat and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Cano said the Soviet team, runner-up to Dynamo Kiev last season, is a veteran group with a big, physical defense. It includes several Olympians in their 30s, particularly on defense, plus newer blood, notably 19-year-old forward Ugor Kolivanov, the team’s leading scorer. “They have a very experienced side,” Cano said.

Vanole and Hooker are members of the U.S. national team.

“We’ve got a pretty good team,” Cano said. “It could be interesting. I think we’re going to surprise ‘em a little bit.”
