Sari’s Heroine Wins Monrovia Handicap
Sari’s Heroine, ridden by Pat Valenzuela led the entire way Wednesday and won by two lengths in the $65,400 Monrovia Handicap for older fillies and mares at Santa Anita.
Lichi, a 15-1 shot ridden by Gary Baze, finished second a half-length in front of the odds-on favorite, Aberuschka, ridden by Gary Stevens.
Sari’s Heroine defeated six rivals and earned $38,400 in the race for distaffers, 4 years old and up.
The winner was clocked in 1:15 for about 6 1/2 furlongs down the Hillside turf course.
Sent off the 3-1 second choice, Sari’s Heroine paid $8.60, $5.80 and $3. Lichi returned $10.60 and $3.80 and Aberuschka, the 3-5 choice, paid $2.40 to show.
