The Vietnam War film “Platoon” is an early favorite to win this year’s Academy Award for best picture, says Las Vegas oddsmaker Lenny Del Genio of the Frontier Hotel. Del Genio made “Platoon” a 6-5 favorite to win, followed by “Hannah and Her Sisters” at 7-5. “Peggy Sue Got Married” and “Blue Velvet” are listed at 8-5, and “The Mission” is a long shot at 10-1. Del Genio also picked “Platoon” director Oliver Stone as a 6-5 favorite to win in his category. Woody Allen is at 7-5 for “Hannah and Her Sisters.” At 8-5 are Roland Joffe for “The Mission,” Rob Reiner for “Stand By Me” and James Ivory for “A Room With a View.”
