Arizona Beats Slumping Titans in Baseball, 7-4

Gerg Fowble hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run seventh inning Thursday night as Arizona defeated Cal State Fullerton, 7-4, in a nonconference baseball game on Titan Field.

Arizona pitcher Frank Halcovich (2-0) struck out five and walked four in six innings for the victory. David Blake earned the save. Mike Harkey was the loser.

The Wildcats (9-0) were led by David Martinez, who went 3 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Fullerton (1-5) was led by Keith Kaub (3 for 4 with a double) and Jim Osborn (2 for 3).

Arizona scored twice in the first inning on unearned runs. Martinez led off with a single and scored on a Chip Hale single and a throwing error by third baseman Tony Trevino. Gary Alexander then hit a grounder to Trevino, whose second error allowed Hale to scored.

Fullerton tied it in the fourth after Greg Mannion singled, Kaub singled and Osborn walked to load the bases. Mike Ham hit into a double play to score Mannion, and Kemer Brett hit a grounder to score Kaub.
