Community College Baseball : Cypress Scores Twice in Ninth, Beats De Anza

Cypress College scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a throwing error by De Anza first baseman Jeff Herman for a 5-4 victory at Cypress in the first round of the Cypress/Fullerton Tournament.
Cypress, trailing 4-3, loaded the bases on three singles with one out in the ninth. Herman fielded a ground ball by Mike Parker, but overthrew home plate, allowing Paul Boucher to score the tying run and Dave Brodt the game-winner.
Herman had given De Anza the lead with a three-run home run with two out in the eighth.
Cypress center fielder Rey Hernandez went 4 for 5 with a double and a run batted in.
Cypress (5-2) plays the winner of El Camino-East Los Angeles College in the second round at 10 a.m. today.
In other nonconference action:
College of the Canyons 8, Saddleback 1--College of the Canyons used a four-run seventh to beat visiting Saddleback. Keith Hatch’s home run with two out in the seventh gave Saddleback (2-2) its only run.
Rancho Santiago 4, San Diego City College 3--Brent Reese hit a three-run home run with two outs in the eighth inning to give the Dons (3-0) a victory at home. Dave Kirkpatrick hit a solo home run in the second inning, but the Dons trailed, 3-1, before the eighth. David Tellers (1-0) was the winning pitcher.
