David Wagner, the final candidate for the LSU athletic director’s post, spent slightly more than two hours behind closed doors with a committee screening applicants and emerged confident.

However, Wagner, athletic director at Georgia Southern College, said he doesn’t know about the politics of the situation or about talk that filling the job is a “two horse race” between interim athletic director Larry Jones and Southeastern Conference sports announcer Joe Dean.

The sixth man interviewed, Wagner said he talked with members of the committee about such things as academics and athletics, control of the athletic program and Wagner’s views of LSU.
