Sockers to Get the Day Off
The Sockers find themselves with an unexpected day off after the New York Express ceased operations Tuesday.
The Sockers were scheduled to play the Express tonight in New York.
“My immediate thought when I heard the New York franchise had folded was ‘Thank goodness, we can use a break,’ ” Socker Coach Ron Newman said. “We have some nagging injuries and this time off will help. But, in reality, I think (New York folding) is a shame. Anytime there are players out of work, it’s sad.”
The Sockers were to leave for New York Tuesday afternoon. Now, they will fly to Baltimore Thursday for Friday’s scheduled game against the Blast.
The Major Indoor Soccer League hasn’t announced when the Sockers will make up tonight’s game but said every team will play a full 52-game schedule.
