College Baseball : Northridge Takes Advantage of Aztec Errors in 6-2 Win

Jeremy Hernandez allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings, and John Balfarz drove in two runs to lead Cal State Northridge to a 6-2 victory over San Diego State in nonconference college baseball game Friday at Smith Field.

Hernandez (3-1) allowed two runs in the fifth inning, but Northridge was already leading, 6-0. Northridge (7-4) scored two runs in the first, one in the second and three in the fourth.

Aztec starter Greg Page (1-1), was charged with five runs in 3 innings.

Lenny Gilmore had two doubles to lead Northridge’s six-hit attack. CSUN also took advantage of three San Diego State (6-3) errors to score two unearned runs.

USD 6, Chapman 5--Robbie Rogers drove in the tying and winning runs with a single in the bottom of the ninth for the Toreros at home. USD trailed, 5-4, after Chapman’s John Morin hit a solo home run in the ninth. Rogers--who has hit in all three of USD’s games this season--drove in five runs with two singles and a ground-rule double. Rob Sparks (3-0) pitched a complete game for USD (7-2). Jim Bennett (0-1) took the loss for Chapman (5-4).
