Needing a victory to assure itself a spot in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn.’s postseason basketball tournament, Cal State Long Beach plays New Mexico State tonight at Las Cruces, N.M.

Long Beach, which has lost four straight games, is 12-15 overall and 7-8 in the PCAA. New Mexico State is 14-13 and 8-8.

The 49ers could lose their remaining three games and still make the eight-team tournament if University of the Pacific, in ninth place with a 6-10 record, loses its final two games at Nevada Las Vegas and San Jose State.
