STATISTICAL WATCH : Both Simi Valley Teams Streak Into Playoffs

Several Valley basketball teams have winning streaks of 10 games or more, keeping the streaks alive at the right time--while the playoffs are under way. Significant streaks after the first round of the playoffs belong to Simi Valley boys (19), Simi Valley girls (14), Montclair Prep boys (13), Kennedy girls (12), North Hollywood girls (12) and North Hollywood boys (10).

Scoring: Taft’s Kevin Franklin finished the season with 687 points and an average of 31.2 points per game, the best in the City Section. . . . Steve Ward of Calabasas finished with 632 points, an average of 25.3 per game, and concluded his career with 1,872. Teammate Jon Drezner, in a remarkable display of balance, finished with 335 points and 335 rebounds. . . . Westlake’s Paul Keenan became the first player in school history to break the 400 single-season mark with 405 points after the first round of the playoffs. . . . Canyon’s Greg Paskwietz scored 534 points, a 20.5 average.

Names and numbers: After the first round of the playoffs, Simi Valley is shooting 56%. Center Don MacLean leads the team at 64%; Shawn DeLaittre is at 58%. . . . Dave Sanger, a 6-7 junior center, had seven rebounds and six blocked shots in Montclair Prep’s first-round playoff victory and has blocked 108 shots this season for a 4.9 average. . . . L.A. Baptist’s Steve Kim set a school playoff record with 17 assists in a first-round playoff loss to Twentynine Palms.
