“Platoon” is the odds-on favorite to win the best-picture Oscar, Las Vegas bookmaker Lenny Del Genio announced Thursday. The film’s director-writer, Oliver Stone, is also a shoo-in to capture the best-director kudo. Del Genio handicapped the best-picture race this way: “Platoon,” even money; “Hannah and Her Sisters,” 6-5; “Children of a Lesser God,” 3-1; “A Room With a View,” 4-1, and “The Mission,” 5-1. However, it is illegal to bet on the Oscars, even in Nevada.
