Without discussion, Los Angeles County supervisors asked the state to rename the Baldwin Hills State Recreation Area after ailing Supervisor Kenneth Hahn. The board voted 3 to 0 to petition the state for the name change at the request of Supervisor Pete Schabarum. When Schabarum last week indicated that he would seek the park’s renaming, Supervisor Ed Edelman objected, saying that the move would indicate that Hahn--recovering from a stroke--would not be returning to duty. Edelman was not present for the vote. Hahn’s physician, Dr. Michael Perlman, has said the supervisor is making “excellent progress” and could return to work “in the near future.”
