Guard Held in Slaying of Boy, 6
A security guard who had helped search for a boy who had disappeared and then attended the funeral for him after he was found slain was booked for investigation of the boy’s murder today after walking into the police station to offer information, authorities said.
Lt. Al Lehman said Shawn Quincy Melton, 26, of Vallejo was arrested shortly after he arrived at the station, 20 minutes after a telephone tipster told police Melton was the man they have been seeking since Jeremy Stoner, 6, disappeared Feb. 21. His nude and strangled body was found Feb. 25 in a Sacramento Delta marsh. Melton was taken to the California Medical Facility in Vacaville “for his own safety,” Lehman said.
