Maurice Gladman, Tustin Community Activist, Dies

Maurice Gladman, a longtime Tustin resident and community activist, died Sunday of pancreatic cancer. He was 67.

Gladman, an Orange County tire dealer, was a former president of Kiwanis International, the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce and the Santa Ana-Tustin YMCA. He also served on the Chapman College board of governors.

Gladman had been honored by several organizations for service. He was a recipient of the City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Award and the Salvation Army’s Heart to God and Hand to Man Award.

Born March 19, 1919, in Winnipeg, Canada, Gladman served in the U.S. Army in World War II and in Korea. He retired as a colonel in the Army Reserve in 1973, but for the last seven years had been assigned as a reserve officer to the office of the assistant secretary of the Army for installations and logistics at the Pentagon.

In 1954, Gladman founded the Gladman & Wallace Tire Co. with Chester Wallace, which grew to three locations in Orange County. In 1963, Gladman became sole owner of the company, which he sold in 1973 to Globe Tire Co.

Memorial services will be held on March 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the Tustin Presbyterian Church, where Gladman was a member for 30 years and sang in the choir.

Gladman is survived by his wife, Rosabelle; their two children, Dennis Gladman of Poway and Patricia Daly of Irvine, and a sister, Anne Cook of Santa Ana.
