A security guard was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping and murder in the death of 6-year-old Jeremy Floyd Stoner of Vallejo. Police Lt. Al Lehman said Shawn Quincy Melton, 26, a security guard, who had joined in the community search for the missing child and later attended his funeral, was taken into custody when he walked into the police station to offer information on the case. Lehman said an out-of-town caller he declined to identify alerted investigators that Melton was involved in the murder. The boy disappeared Feb. 21, and his body was found four days later, strangled and concealed in bushes near Rio Vista in Sacramento County. Melton, brought from his cell to talk to reporters, denied the slaying and said police had “turned on him” after he supplied them with information.
