Sale of the Tail
In the ire aroused in the community by the plans of developer Herbert M. Piken to replace the fine old Tail O’ the Cock restaurant with yet another traffic-clogging eyesore shopping center, one salient point has been overlooked.
The property could have been sold by former owner Sheldon A. McHenry to another restaurateur, but McHenry chose to sell it to an irresponsible developer for more money than he could possibly spend at his old age.
In McHenry’s implied desire to provide for his heirs, he has conspicuously avoided any sense of civic responsibility and concern. Truly, this was a deal inspired by selfish greed on both sides.
