Site--Sports Arena

Time--6:30 p.m.

Records--Point Loma 30-0; Vista 26-2.

Last meeting--Point Loma, 60-40 (December).

Point Loma update--As they have for the last four seasons, the Pointers are rolling. Point Loma will be playing for its fourth straight San Diego Section title. The Pointers have won 118 of 119 games with Terri Mann, a 6-foot-2 All-American, on the team. Mann is a two-time section player of the year. This will be her final high school game against a county team. If Point Loma wins, it will most likely play a first-round game at home in the Southern California Regionals of the state tournament. The Pointers, who have not been tested this season, defeated Mount Carmel, 67-27, in the semifinals.

Vista update--The Panthers are making their first appearance in the section final. Coach Joe DeMaria has put together the beginnings of a strong program at Vista. Vista has lost just twice this season and both defeats were to Point Loma. DeMaria said the Panthers are playing their best basketball now. Vista is led by 6-4 sophomore Chris Enger, who is averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds. The Panthers, who won the Palomar League title, routed Santana, 64-34, in the semifinals.

Key to the game--DeMaria said Vista will have to control two of Point Loma’s top three players--Monica Filer, Liza Carillo and Mann. One of those two, he said, will have to be Mann. Vista held Mann to 17 points in its last game against Point Loma but was unable to control the other two. Vista also had problems getting the ball into play against Point Loma’s denial defense. The key for Vista will be to cope with Point Loma’s press and slow down the Pointer offense. The key for Point Loma is to play like it has for the last four years.
