College Roundup : Titans Lose 1, Get 2 Shutouts in Texas Softball Tournament
The Cal State Fullerton softball team made eight errors in losing its first game in the Texas A&M; tournament Friday, but the Titans shut out their next two opponents on the first day of the round-robin tournament.
In the first game, the Titans out-hit Sam Houston, 8-4, but gave up four unearned runs and lost, 4-2. Carey Hess drove in two runs in the second inning to give Fullerton an early lead.
Fullerton (10-2) then defeated Louisiana Tech, 7-0, and Baylor, 11-0. Connie Clark and Janis Okerland combined on a three-hit shutout against Louisiana Tech, and Chenita Rogers went 3 for 4 to lead the Titans.
Against Baylor, Fullerton scored six runs in the first inning, and Chris Gage, who took the loss in the first game, threw a one-hit shutout. Tiny Klomboski went 3 for 4 and Cheryl Dazalla had three RBIs to lead a 14-hit Fullerton attack.
Fullerton plays Oklahoma State, South Carolina and Texas A&M; today.
In nonconference volleyball:
Chapman 3, Azusa Pacific 1--Erich Schlitz had 20 kills and Jim Pangsapa had 10 to lead the Panthers (3-4) to a 15-8, 15-1, 14-16, 15-7 victory at home.
