Acting on an anonymous tip, Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives arrested a 25-year-old woman Monday night in the death of her young daughter. The woman initially told authorities that the baby died in a fall.

Rosary Marta Jenkins, 25, was booked at Las Colinas County Jail on suspicion of murder and was being held without bail, said Lt. Bill Baxter.

Detectives declined to elaborate on the arrest of Jenkins because the investigation is continuing. However, Baxter said detectives were initially called to investigate the death of 2-year-old Amanda Rue Jenkins after being notified by UC San Diego Medical Center.

Jenkins, who is separated from her husband, at first told paramedics that her child had fallen from a chair at their home in the 12000 block of Mapleview Street on Sunday morning.

Medical personnel suspected the possibility of abuse, but, after an initial interview, detectives released the woman.

Deputies later interviewed witnesses, and Jenkins was taken into custody at Mercy Hospital about 10:30 p.m. Detectives declined to identify those witnesses, nor would they say why Jenkins was at the hospital. A Mercy Hospital spokeswoman said the woman came to the emergency room alone but was never admitted.

An autopsy on the child is pending.
