A Campo religious cult leader was convicted Thursday of eight counts of molesting a 10-year-old boy who was a member of the group.
Herbert Beierle, 59, president of God Unlimited University of Healing, was ordered jailed immediately without bail, after the jury returned the guilty verdicts on all counts.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert Eichler said Beierle could receive a sentence of 56 years in state prison.
San Diego Superior Court Judge Napoleon Jones Jr. set sentencing for April 21. He rejected a request from Beierle’s attorney that he remain free on his $100,000 bail bond.
The jury ruled that the molestations were forcible and that Beierle occupied a position of trust over the boy, who now lives with his father elsewhere. The boy said he was molested by Beierle during the summer of 1985.
Beierle faces another child molestation trial on April 14 in connection with accusations from two other boys.
