Lifeguards Tow 2 Men to Safety After Boat Stalls
Los Angeles County lifeguards on Sunday rescued two San Fernando Valley men who were stranded aboard a fishing boat that had stalled in rough seas about two miles off Redondo Beach, authorities said.
The two men, Stan Hudecek, 43, of Granada Hills and Steve Berci, 37, of North Hollywood were towed to safety by a county rescue boat after the engine aboard their 23-foot cabin cruiser failed, Los Angeles County lifeguard Lt. Tom Hargett said.
Rescue efforts were hampered by strong winds and six- to eight-foot waves, which at one point threatened to run the disabled craft aground, Hargett said. “They are two lucky guys,” he said.
