4 Killed in Sierra Plane Crash
A plane whose pilot delayed landing at a Sierra Nevada airport because of a low cloud cover crashed 10 miles away, killing four people, the Tuolumne County sheriff’s office reported today.
A search party located the wreckage about 8:30 a.m., investigator Tom Kaufmann said. The victims were believed to be three females and one male, all residents of Tuolumne County. Their names were not released. The pilot of the aircraft radioed Columbia Airport on Tuesday night that the cloud cover was too low for a landing and that the group would circle the airport until the weather cleared.
