Winkler’s One-Hitter Gives USIU a Split
Karen Winkler threw a one-hitter and Becky Wolfe hit a bases-loaded triple to lead United States International University past Utah State, 4-0, in the first game of a nonconference college softball doubleheader Friday at USIU.
Utah State (3-1) won the second game, 2-0, as Kristie Skogland pitched a two-hitter. USIU is 6-5-1.
In the first game, Winkler (2-1) had a no-hitter until Kendra Ireton singled with one out in the sixth inning. USIU scored all its runs in the third inning. Mary Geer hit a bases-loaded single to drive in a run, and Wolfe followed with her three-run triple.
