UC Irvine’s Track Teams Sweep Their Fields
Jill Harrington, a UC Irvine junior, qualified for the NCAA track and field championships in the 1,500 meters, and the Anteater men’s and women’s teams won a four-team meet Saturday at Anteater Stadium.
Harrington won the 1,500 in 4 minutes 18.8 seconds, qualifying for the June 3-6 championships at Baton Rouge, La. The UCI women scored 75 points to defeat Northern Arizona (67), Cal State Long Beach (37) and Brown (5).
The UCI men’s team, led by Marc Goulet’s first-place finish in the 1,500 (3:50.6) and second-place finish in the 800 (1:54.5), scored 93 points to beat Northern Arizona (65), Cal State Long Beach (30) and Brown (14).
Freshman Buffy Rabbitt, from Newport Harbor High School, won the 800 meters in 2:12 and finished third in the 3,000 at 9:47.7.
For the men, Adrian Justice won the triple jump on his last jump, when he leaped 49-feet 9-inches.
Both UCI teams will compete in the Stanford Invitational Friday and Saturday.
