Orange County College Roundup : Titans Hold Huskies to Two Hits in 6-1 Victory

Longo Garcia, Larry Casian and Paul Johnson combined on a two-hitter Sunday as Cal State Fullerton defeated Washington, 6-1, in a nonconference baseball game at Fullerton.

Garcia, a junior college transfer from Orange Coast, pitched the first five innings and allowed both hits and the run.

Cory Skalisky singled off Garcia (6-1) to put Washington ahead, 1-0, in the second.

Fullerton scored runs in the third and fourth innings. Mark Razook made it 4-1 Fullerton with a two-run double in the sixth.

Andy Mota and Ken Garcia singled in runs in the seventh.

Casian pitched three innings in relief of Garcia, and Johnson pitched ninth for Fullerton (19-10). The Titans open Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. play Friday at UC Santa Barbara.

Washington (0-2) plays in the Riverside tournament starting today.

In men’s tennis:

UC Irvine tournament--UC Irvine defeated Utah, 5-4, in the quarterfinal match and leads Indiana, 3-2, in a semifinal match called because of darkness. The match is scheduled to conclude this morning at 8:30.

The teams played two matches Sunday because the opening round was rained out Saturday.

Against Utah, the Anteaters trailed, 3-2, but Mike Cadigan defeated Brendon Browyer, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, in the final singles match.

Irvine’s No. 1 doubles team of Mark Kaplan and Trevor Kronemann defeated Browyer and Brian Monson, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5, to tie the match, 4-4.

Irvine won the match when the No. 3 doubles team of Cadigan and Steve Oliver defeated Eric Chin and Johan Hogstedte, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

The winner of the Irvine/Indiana match meets Fresno State in the final at 1:30 p.m. at UC Irvine. Fresno State advanced to the final by defeating the University of San Diego, 5-4, in the other semifinal match.

Chapman plays New Mexico for ninth place at 9 a.m. at Newport Park Center.
