Darryl Strawberry was fined a total of $1,500 over the weekend by New York Mets Manager Dave Johnson for missing a practice session and then informing the club he would miss Sunday’s exhibition game, a spokesman for the club said.

Strawberry was fined $500 for missing Saturday’s practice here prior to a game at nearby Tampa against the Cincinnati Reds. The right fielder, citing “personal problems,” then informed Johnson Sunday morning he would not attend the scheduled workout and game against the Reds. At that time he was fined another $1,000 by Johnson.

Strawberry, however, did appear later in the day, although he did not play in the game.
