Death of Zambia Man Greatly Exaggerated
A suspected robber shot by police and pronounced dead by doctors began screaming for help after spending three hours in a mortuary, according to police.
The suspect was one of four men believed shot to death by police during a robbery Monday on a highway between the town of Ndola and Kitwe in Copperbelt province.
All four were taken to Ndola Hospital, where they were pronounced dead from wounds suffered in the early Sunday shoot-out. Ndola is about 160 miles north of Lusaka.
But, at about 6 a.m., a worker in the mortuary heard shouts and found one of the men alive on a body tray, said Copperbelt Police Chief Darious Kalebo. He was hospitalized.
