New York’s WPIX-TV Wednesday terminated the contract for its news writers and editors. Workers at the station said the action might force a strike. “They have torn up our contract and posted new work rules which leave us without union protection,” said one worker who asked not to be identified. “This is an unfair labor practice.” “We have been negotiating since June and we are at an impasse,” said John Corporan, vice president for news at the independent station. “We’re going to implement a new contract.” That action came as a Writers Guild strike by news writers at ABC and CBS was in its fifth week and NBC continued contract negotiations with the National Assn. of Broadcast Employees and Technicians, whose contract expired Wednesday.
