Bicyclist Killed by Drunk-Driving Suspect

A bicyclist was struck and killed Tuesday night by a car fleeing police at speeds up to 80 m.p.h., authorities said Wednesday.

Police said the driver, identified as Patrick Eugene Connolly, 24, of Anaheim, was caught at the scene of the crash and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving.

Connolly’s car struck the cyclist, Secilio Ortega Roman, 19, of Anaheim, at the intersection of Harbor and Garden Grove boulevards about 10:50 p.m., officers said.

The chase had begun three miles away in Westminster near Bushard Street and Bolsa Avenue, where officers had tried to stop Connolly for speeding, police said.

Connolly remained in jail Wednesday on $10,000 bail. His arraignment was scheduled for today in West Orange County Municipal Court.
