Former Dodger star Don Drysdale said he is a potential bidder for the Seattle Mariners, who were made available when owner George Argyros purchased the San Diego Padres two weeks ago.
Drysdale heads a small group of potential investors interested in the team. He told the Seattle Times he would keep the franchise in Seattle. Argyros has said he would like to sell the Mariners to someone who would keep it in the Northwest, but would also consider other offers.
Meanwhile, Gov. Booth Gardner signed into law a measure granting Seattle or King County the right to own the Seattle Mariners, saying he believes the team belongs in private ownership and a government purchase should be “last resort” to keep the Mariners from moving.
