A fire of unknown origin caused $25,000 damage to a house in the 8200 block of 9th St. Saturday, and a 62-year-old man living next door was treated for smoke inhalation, according to fire department and hospital spokesmen.

The fire broke out at about 4 p.m. in trash outside the house and spread to an adjacent room, Fire Battalion Chief William Cleveland said. No one was home at the time, he said.

Four city fire companies responded and extinguished the blaze in 20 minutes, Cleveland said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Oxygen was administered to John Bales, who lives next door to the house that was on fire. He was taken to Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim where he was treated and released, hospital and fire department spokesmen said.
