“Satellite wagering” at central and Southern California horse racing tracks moved a step closer to reality when a bill to allow it passed its first committee and was sent on to the Appropriations Committee.

The measure would expand a system now allowed in the north and in three other California counties in which bettors can go to one track and bet on races under way at another facility. The races are shown at the first track over closed-circuit television.
