The California Transportation Commission on Thursday approved funding for four San Diego County highway projects worth $5.2 million.
Two of the projects call for rebuilding 4.5 miles of Interstate 5 near La Jolla, University City and Sorrento Valley. The commission also approved a landscaping project on California 52 and a bridge on California 78 near Ramona.
Here is a description of each of the projects:
- $950,000 to replace a 2.5-mile section of broken concrete pavement on Interstate 5. Guardrails will be installed between California 52 and Nobel Drive.
- $2 million for reconditioning a 2-mile stretch of Interstate 5 from Genesee Avenue to Carmel Mountain Road. More than 60,000 cubic feet of dirt will be used to stabilize a section of the highway that settled during storms in San Diego in 1980, a commission spokesman said.
- $1.3 million to landscape a 2.5-mile section of California 52 that is now under construction. The work will be done on a stretch from Interstate 805 to Convoy Street.
- $930,000 to build a bridge over the Santa Maria Creek on California 78 in Ramona.
The projects should go out to bid in three to four months, the spokesman said.
