A Ship Out of Water

I submit a suggestion or two for a permanent home for the “Knife Ship” (“A Ship Out of Water,” March 15, by Elizabeth Venant). First, moor the silly thing on top of City Hall. Second, the City of Angels could raze a few square blocks of some Skid Row neighborhood and build a glorious pavilion to house the enchanting object. And third, of course, the thoughtful, aesthetic-minded City Fathers could launch a bond drive for funds to erect a suitable edifice.

When a city is so poor in housing space, sorely needed land for penal institutions, juvenile facilities and schools, it is ridiculous for elected officials to so concern themselves with the glorifying and preservation of pop art so that they can blithely ignore the hard realities of life.
