Mike Boddicker threw a one-hitter Tuesday night, yielding only a sixth-inning single to Willie Wilson, and Nelson Simmons had three hits as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Kansas City Royals, 3-0, at Kansas City.

Boddicker (2-0) retired the first 13 batters before hitting Danny Tartabull on a full count with one out in the fifth. He then walked Bo Jackson on a full count, but Steve Balboni grounded to third and Angel Salazar flied out.

Wilson singled cleanly into right field to break up the no-hitter.

Boddicker struck out five and walked two as the Orioles, who snapped a four-game losing streak, won for only the second time in their last nine games.

Kansas City pitcher Danny Jackson gave up only five hits in seven innings as his record fell to 0-4.

Third baseman Ray Knight, who drove in the final Baltimore run, was taken to a Kansas City hospital after the game after getting hit in the head in a ninth-inning collision at second base.

A Baltimore spokesman said Knight seemed to have trouble remembering details of the game. A spokesman at St. Luke’s Hospital said Knight would be kept overnight for observation and refused to give any details.

Texas 3, New York 1--Edwin Correa, trying to become the youngest American League pitcher to throw a no-hitter in the modern era, held the Yankees hitless at Arlington, Tex., for 7 innings until Willie Randolph singled.

Correa, pitching one day before his 21st birthday, lost his bid when Randolph cleanly lined a 3-2 pitch to left field. Don Mattingly followed with a double to left-center. Randolph was out at the plate, but Correa was out of the game. Dale Mohorcic replaced him and finished for his second save in the combined two-hitter.

Correa (1-1) gave up a run in the second inning on a catcher’s interference call against Don Slaught, a walk and Randolph’s RBI grounder. Correa walked the bases loaded with two outs in sixth, but escaped the jam by retiring Gary Ward on a grounder to shortstop. Correa, a right-hander, struck out seven and walked five.
