Two San Diego men were injured Thursday after their car collided with a San Diego Trolley at 8:55 p.m. in Logan Heights.

Neither the trolley operator nor the 12 passengers were injured in the accident, which occurred at 28th Street and Commercial Avenue.

Maurice Genes and Keith Macennack were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center with bruises and cuts. Genes was treated and released late Thursday and Macennack was listed in good condition Friday.

Two passengers on the trolley said the driver of the car did not stop at the intersection’s red light while he was traveling south on Commercial Avenue, Fire Department spokeswoman Ida Cheney said. The trolley was traveling east on 28th Street to the Euclid Avenue station.

The trolley operator put on the brakes before the intersection when she saw the car and thought the vehicle would not be able to stop in time, Cheney said. The trolley collided with the car, pushing it about 45 feet.

It took firefighters and paramedics half an hour to get the men out of the car.
