Hearings in Media Spotlight
The opening session of the joint Senate- House Iran- contra hearings Tuesday in Washington will be a major media event.
CBS, NBC and ABC will televise the first-day hearings starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday (Channels 2, 4, 7), and will pick up the afternoon session about 11 a.m.
Public television plans all-day coverage beginning at 7 a.m. on Channels 28 and 15.
National Public Radio also will provide live coverage at 7 a.m. on stations KCRW (89.9), KPPC (89.3), KPFK (90.7) and KVCR (91.9).
With the hearings expected to continue through mid-summer, most media coverage after opening day will be determined by its news impact.
On cable television, however, CNN has scheduled gavel-to-gavel coverage of the hearings in their entirety, while C-SPAN will skip live coverage but offer a tape of the sessions at 5 p.m.
