Student, 18, Wounded in Drive-By Shooting Near School
An 18-year-old student was wounded Monday in an apparent drive-by shooting near the Lloyde Continuation High School in Lawndale, school and Sheriff’s Department spokesmen said.
Sipa Sekona was in stable condition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center with a chest wound. He was shot about an hour after completing classes as he walked through the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, across an intersection from the school, officials said.
Dan Finegan, a spokesman for the Centinela Valley Union High School District, said three youths helped Sekona back to the campus, where officials called paramedics. Finegan said Sekona, who lives in the Lennox area, has not been involved with gangs as far as school officials know.
