Campo Man Drowns in Boat Ramp Mishap

Share

A 75-year-old Campo man drowned in a Lake Morena boating accident Tuesday despite attempts of a woman companion to rescue him, Deputy Coroner Chuck Bolton said.

Edgar Lee Thompson was backing his car and boat down the launch ramp at the East County fishing lake when he apparently lost control and the automobile submerged. Kimberly White and her mother, Edith Miller, who were in the car with Thompson, managed to get to shore safely.

White then tried unsuccessfully to rescue Thompson from the submerged vehicle. He was pronounced dead about 10 a.m. by a Life Flight crew.
