The assistant chancellor for UC San Diego was selected as provost of John Muir College, the UCSD administration announced.

Patrick J. Ledden will replace John Stewart, who held the position since 1964.

Ledden has been a member of the department of mathematics since 1966.

He has held several administrative positions at UCSD, including assistant provost of John Muir College from 1971 to 1973. Ledden also was acting provost of Warren College in 1973. As acting provost, he headed the implementation of Warren College’s academic planning, which enrolled its first students in 1974.

Ledden’s appointment is expected to be approved by UCSD President David P. Gardner. If approved, Ledden will begin his new position July 1, the day Stewart retires.
