Philadelphia defenseman Ed Hospodar was suspended for the remainder of the playoffs, and $24,500 in fines were levied, as the result of a brawl between the Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers before Game 6 of the Wales Conference finals, the National Hockey League announced.

Hospodar, who instigated the brawl, skated in the pregame warmups, but was not scheduled to play. He has dressed for only five playoff games this season and has played little in those games, with no goals or assists.

All players who came onto the ice during the incident were fined $500. Hospodar, teammate Glenn Resch and forwards Claude Lemieux and Shayne Corson of Montreal were assessed an additional $500 for returning to the ice at the start of the incident.
