Daughter Spins Up $4.1 Million for Camera-Shy Dad
A retired Air Force major from Merced did chores at home while his daughter hit a $4.1-million jackpot for him Saturday at the state lottery’s Big Spin.
A La Mirada bookkeeper and a University of California physics major also won $1-million prizes.
Tom Hedrick, 61, said that although he was selected to try his luck in the weekly contest, he elected to stay home because he “didn’t want to be on TV.”
His daughter, Camilla Weed, also of Merced, was the first contestant to spin the 100-slot wheel of fortune.
Debbie Clements, a bookkeeper from La Mirada, and Son Tran, a 31-year-old physics major at UC San Diego, each landed on $1-million slots.
