“The Perfumed Handkerchief.” Kultur. $59.95. Since Peking Opera is one of the world’s most gloriously artificial music-theater idioms, restaging it for television in a natural setting (the Imperial Summer Palace in Peking) distorts but also heightens its sense of theatrical stylization. Subtitled in English and Chinese, this Peking Opera Company performance of an intimate, hourlong domestic comedy is utterly charming, with the falsetto singing, dancelike movement and farcical plot complications executed with great flair. The muted color photography is also splendid. Anxious-to-please commentaries are provided between scenes by Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows. Information: (201) 229-2343. ***
