View Park : Grace Chavis-Butler Honored
Teacher Grace Chavis-Butler has received the 1987 Alumni Recognition Award from American University in Washington.
A resident of View Park, Chavis-Butler was one of five alumni honored for professional achievement and service to the university and the community.
Chavis-Butler financed her education by serving in the Women’s Army Corps in the 1940s. She taught in the Washington and Oakland school systems for many years. She then moved to the Los Angeles area and became an instructor in the Los Angeles Community College system. She received a Ph.D. in education from the University of Beverly Hills in 1982.
