Almost 1,900 gallons of raw sewage flowed into Mission Bay early Thursday morning after a blocked sewer main caused a manhole to overflow at Dana Landing, a county Health Services Department spokeswoman said.

The spill occurred when a sewer main at the boat dock became blocked with grease. A city utilities crew made the necessary repairs and the flow was stopped after about 75 minutes.

While county health officials are calling this a small spill, the bay will be closed for 100 yards on either side of the spill while tests of the water are conducted. Because the water level is low in that area and there isn’t a lot of tidal movement to flush the sewage out, the area will remain closed for several days.
